Technophilia
the digital natives
are restless
you're about to
become bytes of
roadkill as their
speed of life
roars over you
every bit of them
data streamed across the
cosmos
plugged into the
whole wide world
from behind doors
closed to the natural world
the evolution of
the future
is handcuffed
with technology
will it
save
the world or
enslave it?
I wrote this poem after watching a video about the changing face of students and how can we as teachers keep up with them and technology to ensure that we are engaging them in the classrooms.
These are the videos that inspired my writing:
Mr. B! I have seen these videos before and felt the same way after watching them. I think we are both headed in the right direction by enrolling in ETAD 470. So far, I have learned about many online tools and resources that my students have probably known about long before now. I feel these tools will definitely help me to engage my students.
ReplyDeleteI have also seen these videos before, but every time I watch them, my mind is filled with more questions. I am intrigued with many of the latest developments in technology, but how can I possibly keep up? Every day, it seems that I have fallen farther behind in the technological world! Thanks, for giving me an idea for a new blog post!
ReplyDeleteTechnology is a hard beast to tame...we need it, society is built upon it yet it moves so fast how do we keep up with it? As a husband and father of 5 this is a constant struggle for me as I try to make sure I have time for everything in my life.
ReplyDeleteI have only seen the one video of the university student. Now seeing the K-12 video it has opened my eyes to see how much the younger students interact with technology. As I was going through elementary school I hardly used any technology besides video games and sometime TV. Now kids are all over cell phones and know how to use computers better then me. I need to realize this and start trying to bring new ideas into my teaching and be able to keep up with the world today.
ReplyDeleteThis can be a completely daunting and maybe even crippling realization depending on your ideas of what you can do as a teacher. Even for forward thinking people who seem to be running with the pack on the technological tidal wave it is easy to get dragged under trying to stay on top of it all.
